Who Is Barry Rosen?
About Barry Rosen: A Life of Perseverance
I’m Barry Rosen, a 65-year-old author, speaker, and health advocate who’s never let obstacles define me. From a tough childhood marked by severe dyslexia to owning a comedy club and writing books that touched thousands, my journey is about proving the naysayers wrong.
Growing Up with Dyslexia
Diagnosed at 26, I struggled through school, barely reading at a third-grade level. Teachers and peers told me I’d never amount to anything, but I listened to my gut. I graduated high school, attended junior college, and learned to adapt. My dyslexia still challenges me—some foods even make it worse—but I’ve written six books, including a children’s book, The Dog That Didn’t Give Up, that sold over 15,000 copies.
A Colorful Career
I’ve worn many hats: bouncer, handyman, comedy club owner, and author. In my 20s, I bought the Funny Bone Comedy Club in Knoxville, despite being swindled by the previous owners. I made it work through sheer grit. Later, I toured the country for 12 years, speaking to kids about perseverance, staying off drugs, and stranger safety. My books on romance and children’s issues landed me on over 500 TV and 2,000 radio shows.
Facing Health Battles
At 55, my health crashed. Misdiagnosed and pumped with steroids, I ballooned to 317 pounds, battled fibromyalgia, and faced blood clots that nearly killed me. I was bedridden, in constant pain, and thought I wouldn’t see my son graduate. But I fought back. By studying food for five years, I healed my liver, reversed pre-diabetes, and eased chronic pain. My book, Healing Your Body Through Foods, shares how I did it.
My Why
Today, I’m driven to help others. Whether it’s teaching you how to heal through food or supporting orphanages through my Rosen Foundation, I believe in giving back. I’ve seen kids in America and abroad with no one to turn to, and I’m determined to change that.
